ABOUT US

Who We Are

As an almshouse charity founded in 1635, our mission is as relevant as ever.

We exist to provide modern, safe and independent homes in Greater Manchester that:

  • Are affordable, modern and well maintained in order to meet the evolving needs of older people
  • Enable people to enjoy a good quality of life in a supportive, peaceful and safe environment
  • Support residents to stay connected with relatives and friends through community links and social activities

We are regulated by The Charity Commission (Charity Number 1166318) and Homes England to ensure that residents have confidence in the way the Edward Mayes Trust is run.

What We Do

Property needs may have changed over the past 300 years – but the values and principles that are important to our residents remain the same: independence, privacy, friendship and peace of mind.

Our sheltered accommodation enables residents to live independently within their own private homes – supported with the added safety and security that a Scheme Manager and 24/7 emergency call system brings.

We provide city-centre homes with the added benefits of shared gardens and lounges so that residents can stay connected to their communities and make new friends if they choose.

How We Can Help

Our properties are specifically designed to help people who are finding it difficult to live completely independently, or are planning for the future, to enjoy prolonged independence in a safe and supportive setting.

We are proud of our history and prepared for our future: our 48 properties in Manchester have been fully renovated and provide residents with the features you would expect from modern living: accessible bathrooms or wet rooms, level access to ground floor homes and free wi-fi.
